Julie's Homepage
Julie is a character on OtakuMUSH, and is the intellectual property of her player.
Julie wasn't supposed to happen. Her mother Sharilyn, at the time working as a waitress at a small resort on Gorgon II, had a fling with a young man taking a vacation before he reported for AF boot, and nature took its course. Clarence Foster was surprised when he returned a year later and discovered he was a father, all the more so because he'd gotten engaged to his high school sweetheart in the meantime. Aforementioned fiance (and later wife) never found out about Julie, or the two siblings that followed her, though Clarence went out of his way to spend time on Gorgon II with his "second family". Despite the odd circumstances, Julie grew up happy, if a bit reserved.
When Julie was 12, Sharilyn moved the family to Perseus, the capital of Gorgon II, to take over as manager of the Rock Ridge Ski Resort. It was there that Julie met Dr. Fred Russell, the house physician. Retired from private practice, the elderly man was gentle, humorous, and always had a pocket full of candy for the kiddies running around. Julie became interested in his work after watching him resuscitate the victim of a skiing accident. Seeing a kindred spirit in her, Dr. Russell taught the girl emergency first aid and let her absorb knowledge from him. In a few years, she was acting as his 'nurse'. She was firmly planted on the road to what she knew would be her career.
Julie applied to and was accepted into the University of Gorgon, where she majored in Pre-Med. Her marks were excellent, and she graduated Salutatorian. When it came to choosing where to study further, her path was clear. The Foster family tradition, one Julie took seriously, was military service. Too, Clarence Foster himself had died heroically in the performance of his duty when she was 16, and she wanted to honor his memory. So she applied for admittance to the Alliance Military Academy on Linnae, passed the grueling tests, and was accepted (not that her mother was particularly happy about this). There she majored in emergency medicine, with a minor in forensic pathology. Again, her marks spoke of her determined dedication, and she became known as a technically brilliant physician, though her bedside manner, while not unfriendly, could use a little more warmth. She graduated at the top of her class. Her internship was served at the Navy base on Sirius IV, and after that she was transferred to the AFSS Yamamoto. She did well for a year or so working under the somewhat cranky CMO on the ship, until she made the mistake of pointing out a potentially fatal error he'd made. He got her transferred out so fast she barely had time to pack, and Julie was forced to wait a month for her next set of orders. This time, she was headed for the Alliance Complex on Linnae.
Julie could well be described as an iceberg- for the little bit of herself she reveals, there's nine times as much of her carefully hidden. She's a woman of strong convictions and emotions, but she tries to keep them to herself. To others, she seems more than just calm- she's been accused of being heartless at times, or shy. Not that she's ever treated anybody with less than courtesy, or ever dealt with a patient than less than compassion- indeed, she cares very much about people- she merely keeps everyone at arm's-length, and always, always, stays calm. She could be in the middle of a battle and she'd calmly shout orders, ignoring gunfire and explosions.
Julie's extremely dedicated to her work, almost to a fanatic degree. She hates losing a patient, and will often take out her frustration on a punching bag when nobody else is around. Medical puzzles fascinate her- that's one reason she minored in forensic pathology. She's a natural when it comes to medicine; some have called her brilliant in her field. She scoffs at that, more embarrassed at such praise than anything else. In her mind, she's not good enough, and she constantly strives to better herself.
Though it might surprise some, Julie does relax in her off-hours. She truly enjoys reading medical journals and reviewing her old textbooks. While in college she joined the school's boxing and skiing teams. She enjoys reading and writing poetry, and she plays piano (to some extent) and harmonica. Her favorite hobby is an expensive one- she collects model trains, and will happily spend hours carefully constructing tracks and terrain to run them over.

What Does Julie Look Like?
Yep, that picture on the right, that's Julie. It was drawn by Leila, AKA God of OtakuMUSH, and she has my utmost gratitude for such a great pic. For the sake of completeness, here's Julie's description on the game:
This human woman displays a decided lack of height, standing exactly 5'3-1/2", but she carries herself with quiet self-confidence. What would normally be a slender frame has been enhanced by a well-developed though not overly bulky musculature. Her straight shiny raven hair, springing up from a widow's peak, falls about her face in a dark cloud, dividing in the back to flow in front of each proud shoulder to her chest. Dark crystal blue eyes, a bit large for her face, tend to hold a forbidding flatness with the occasional flash of emotion allowed to be seen. Angular features- a pointed, dimpled chin; thin lips; and small perky nose- combine to give her face a rather sharp quality. Her complexion, light bronze in color, is sprinkled with a few of the freckles common to those of her home planet. Long slender fingers, ending in nails clipped neatly short, are rarely still. Her figure barely reveals she's female, so subtle are the curves. The sweet lilting alto voice issuing from her bears the slightest trace of a Gorgonian accent.
